WORLD DANCESPORT FEDERATION GAMES

Dear WDSF National Member Bodies, 

Having recently returned from meetings in Kaohsiung with Shawn Tay, I express my great pleasure, satisfaction and pride that we have reached agreement with Government authorities to conduct: 

The Inaugural World DanceSport Federation Games 

These Games will incorporate all our DanceSport disciplines and are to be held on 23-29 September 2013 in Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei.

This is an historical achievement which has become reality thanks to our Vision 2012 project and became reality on our AGM in 2011 when we all accepted the expanded definitions to DanceSport disciplines conducted inside WDSF. 

We will be privileged as one of the International Sports Federations who will have their own combined Games. 

I can confirm that Kaohsiung officials are very enthusiastic with these Inaugural Games and we are confident that they will be very successful. There is no doubt that the organisation for these Championships will be very professional.  The Stadium which we will be using over the five days will be the purpose built Kaohsiung Arena, which at The 2009 World Games presented DanceSport to an excellent and extraordinary capacity audience of 15,000 persons. 

The Kaohsiung Organizing Committee will pay for economy airfares and accommodation for the required stay in Kaohsiung. 

As you can see, these Games will be an amazing achievement for DanceSport and WDSF. I will soon finalise the programmes, disciplines and the number of athletes (which will be around 800) with the Kaohsiung Organising Committee for this inaugural games. 

Detailed information concerning daily schedules, arrival, departure, etc, will be provided to all Members and Associate Members in a few weeks through our Sports Director. 

For these Games, only WDFS Rules and Regulations will apply. This means that the very best athletes can participate as long as they are members of WDSF Member bodies.  Specifically, Member bodies selected for these Games will be able to send athletes even if one of the athletes does not have the Nationality of the Member body. 

We intend to make these Games an incredibly memorable showcase of DanceSport and we will conduct the Games every two years from 2013 onwards. 

As part of this project, we also want to involve the general public in Kaohsiung to be active participants in this event.  We will do this by every day organizing workshops for the audience.... on Salsa, Hip Hop, Line Dance, Standard, Latin and Rock n Roll.  Therefore, we will need very good trainers with a high empathy for each dance discipline for the whole time in Kaohsiung. 

On the last day of the World DanceSport Federation Games, they will culminate with a Big Gala event where all winners will be presenting an "Extravaganza of DanceSport".  We also intend to invite some other athletes to be part of that final day.

Kaohsiung, DanceSport and WDSF will remember these Games for many years to come.
