Inaugural National Championships
1st
ABDA Singapore Open Dancesport Championships
Friday
2 October 1998, 7:00pm - 11:00pm
Toa
Payoh Sports Hall
The Amateur Dance Sport Association (Singapore), the national sports association
governing dancesport in Singapore, will be organising the inaugural official
national dancesport championships in Singapore on Friday 2 October 1998
at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall.
Despite the current regional economic crisis, and it being our very first
national championships, the response has been very encouraging. Already,
we have received over 70 entries from 11 countries including Australia,
Japan, China, Chinese Taipei, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Thailand, Philippines,
Sri Lanka and Malaysia. This could partly be due to the fact that
the Asian Dance Sport Federation (ADSF) has designated the 1st ABDA Singapore
Open to be an Asian Ranking Competition. Many of the top dancesport
couples from the region are coming to be ranked by the ADSF.
Generously sponsored by Singapore Pools (Pte) Ltd, the 1st ABDA Singapore
Open will include 10 events ranging from Grade D, one dance events for
the beginners, to Grade A1, international latin and standard five dance
events. The Guest-of-Honour will be Dr Tan Eng Liang, Vice-President
of the Singapore National Olympic Council.
This is also the first time we are using the Toa Payoh Sports Hall as a
venue for dancesport. It is a beautiful air-conditioned oval hall
with a capacity for 2000 spectators. We are certain it would become
a popular venue for more dancesport events in the future.
Admission tickets for spectators are priced at only S$30.00. You
can also get discounts on dance shoes and accessories. Compact Discs
featuring the latest ballroom and latin dance music will also be on sale.
So call our hotline: 774-2726 and book your tickets early to avoid disappointment.
Come and support your favourite local dancesport athletes as they compete
for the glory of Singapore!
